Welcome to the Migrant Health Workers in the NHS network
Our Aims
The aim of the group is to encourage research on the past and present roles that migrants have played in the NHS, promote information sharing and discussion and make resources available. The NHS has from its founding in 1948 to the present day been dependent on the labour of migrant workers, be they doctors, nurses, carers, cleaners, porters or working in other professions. We believe that understanding this history is key to understanding the history of the NHS and the way in which it works today.
The group aims to serve as a forum that can be used by anyone interested in the role of migrants in the NHS. You could be an academic researcher, NHS employee, a member of a professional association, a trade union, a campaigning group, or a teacher looking for educational materials, a member of the general public or working in the media.
